Root Canal, or endodontics, is the process of removing the nerves from the roots of a tooth. A root canal is often necessary to save an infected tooth.

The procedures uses very thin files to clean and shape the canal. As it progresses towards the root of the tooth, the files become thinner and thinner. Such thin files can easily brake if they overloaded. Until recently, root canals were a lengthy procedure, performed using manually driven files as the risk of braking a file would be much higher with any mechanical device. A broken files stuck in the root of the tooth requires a lot of work (and inconvenince to the patient) to remove .

However, a revolutionary technology called Digital Torque Control (DTC) allows dentists and endodontists to perfom the most complicated root canal in a much shorter time with considerably smaller risk to brake a file. DTC uses a miniature computer that continuously verifies the torque applied to the file to ensure that the file does not brake.
